John Tracy, Life Full of Sufferings
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States on June 26, 1924, John Tracy is the deaf son of the Oscar awardee Spencer Bonaventure Tracy with Louise Ten Broeck Treadwell, founder of John Tracy Clinic. The couple married on September 12, 1923. Nine months later they welcomed their son and on July 1932, their daughter Susie was born.
John was discovered to be suffering from hearing loss when he was an infant. His mother went to various specialists for checkups and solutions regarding his hearing impairment. John Ten Broeck Tracy also suffered from Polio as a child. As Louise Tracy was sharing her experience and journey on raising a deaf child, she established a non-profit school for the deaf children and their parents called John Tracy Clinic.
John Tracy’s Education and Subsequent Career
Though homeschooled as a child because of the Usher syndrome, John Ten Broeck Tracy attended the Pasadena City College. After graduating from this college, he went to the Chouinard Institute of the Arts. He then worked in the art props department at Walt Disney Studios after completing university in 1955, until he started failing his sight.
J. Tracy’s Later Life and Family
At the age of 29, John T. B. Tracy married Nadine Carr in 1953; but their marriage dissolved after five years in 1957. They share a son named Joseph Spencer Tracy. Joseph is also an artist like his father. After his mother’s death, John retired to his home in Acton. He also looked after the John Tracy Clinic, founded by his mother, till his death in 2007.
