What is Ouran HighSchool Host Club?
Ouran HighSchool Host Club is a Japanese comic series that was illustrated and written by Bisco Hatori. The comic was registered by the Hakusensha’s Lala Magazine in September of 2002 to November of 2010 issues.
The comic series followed the life of a highschool scholar student who joined the Host Club at Ouran High School. The comic genre follows a romantic comedy relationship that revolves within and outside of the Host Club.
It became popular that the comic series was adapted into an animated television series, visual novel, audio drama, and live-action movie.
Main Comical Characters
Haruhi Fujioka is a female and main character of the series. The story focused on her gender when she was acting as a male host. Haruhi is a simple, honest, insightful, and caring person, and dedicates her study as she aspired to enter law school.
Tamaki Suoh is a second-year male student who co-founded and is also the president of the Host Club. His personality is flamboyant and narcissistic as well as great dedication in his duty as a host.
Kyoya Ootori is a second-year male student and the vice-president of the Host Club. His character is known to be the “Shadow King”, who operates the Club behind the scenes.
Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin are twins, they are portrayed as childish, mischievous, and devious who tend to manipulate with their schoolmates.
Mitsukuni Haninozuka is a third-year male student. He is a childish character who is fond of desserts. Mitsukuni is also a great martial artist since he came from a martial arts-oriented family.
Takashi Morinozuka is a third-year male student. He is tall, intimidating and a quiet type character. He is a cousin of Mitsukuni and is very protective of him. Many of the customers in the series took a liking to him because of his strong and volatile personality.
Season 1 Plot
The story revolves around the life adventure of Haruhi Fujioka, a middle-class scholar student in a prestigious academy, Ouran Highschool located in Bunkyo, Tokyo.
Her journey started when she accidentally entered an abandoned musical room and happened to be at Ouran Host Club place, where she then met the six male students of the Host Club.
Their first encounter was a mess when Haruhi accidentally tips over the vase that costs her ¥8 million yen. With no money to pay, she was in debt to work as an errand boy of the Club.
Her club colleagues did not notice her being a girl because of her ambiguous face, short hair, and stature. Soon they found out that Haruhi was a girl, they also noticed her natural way of entertaining girl customers. The club saw her potential and promoted her as a full-pledged Host.
Japanese Comic details
Written in original by Bisco Hatori and was published by Hakusensha. It was adapted to an English comic and was published by Madman Entertainment, Viz Media and Chuang Yi.
The comic serialization and original run were in 2002 and 2010, the series had a total collection of 18 individual chapters.
Animation TV details
The animation adaptation of the comic series was directed by Takuya Igarashi. The script was written by Yoji Enokido and the music of the series was done by Yoshihisa Hirano. The animation was created by Bones Inc studio. It was aired by Nippon TV from April of 2006 to September of 2006, with a total of 26 episodes.
Live-action adaptation details
The comic series was adapted to a full live-action movie directed by Choru Han and written by Natsuko Ikeda. The story shared the same plot with the original comic series.
The film was distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan on March 17, 2012, and has a running film time of 105 minutes. It’s box office hit reached about $2.8 million US dollars.
Visual Novel
It is popular in Japan to relieve a popular series and interact with the characters in the story. The Ouran HighSchool Host Club was released on Playstation 2 in April of 2007 by Idea Factory.
The interactive game features the player as Haruhi and making decisions in the story that would affect the other characters
Season 2 release, news, and updates
Ouran HighSchool Host Club is a popular Japanese comic and animation that people are getting excited for season 2 of the series.
In several years since the production of the series, Ouran HighSchool Host Club creators have not yet released any official statement for a season 2 of the series.
Although there have been speculations that if the series is renewed, the continuation of season 2 of the series will be released in the first half of 2021.
Considering the recent events of the Covid-19 pandemic, should the crisis go on until December of 2020, fans and viewers could expect a delay in the release, news, or updates.
