George William Bailey was born on August 27, 1944, in Port Arthur, Texas, USA. He attended Jefferson High School with Janis Joplin (American singer) and Jimmy Johnson (American football coach).

He had his college at Lamar University nearby Beaumont. He transferred to Texas Tech University in Lubbock. However, George left college and started working at local theatre companies in the mid-1960s.

He moved to California in the mid-1970s. By then, he began his career in a small recurring role. He was a scene police officer of the short-lived detective show Harry O.

That’s how his television career started. He also landed one-shot episodic roles in some television programs like Starsky and Hutch and Charlie’s Angels. It was a big step when he had a film debut which is A Force of One in 1979.

It was a breakout role in the 1970s being the cigar-chomping Sgt. Luther Rizzo in M*A*S*H. George appeared in Rustler’s Rhapsody as Tom Berenger’s sidekick in 1985.

He felt that it wasn’t too late to finish his studies in 1993. Then, he went back to college and graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos. He graduated Bachelor of Fine Arts, in Theatre (1999-2000) and garnered Artist-in-Residence.

G.W. Bailey’s Career

Ha appeared in several dramatic roles. He’s mostly remembered for his comedic roles like Staff Sargeant Luther Rizzo in M*A*S*H (1979-1983), Lieutenant/Captain Thaddeus Harris in Police Academy (1984-1994), and Captain Felix Maxwell in Mannequin (1987).

George portrayed the role of Detective Lieutenant Louie Provenza in TNT’s TV crime drama The Closer. He also portrayed in the spinoff series Major Crimes (2005 to 2018).

The Couple’s Marriage
