Morgan Freeman was born on June 1, 1938, in Memphis, Tennesse, and is the son of Mayme Edna and Morgan Porterfield Freeman. He is the youngest among the four children of his family. His father was a barber who passed away in 1961 due to cirrhosis. His mother was a teacher.

When he was only a baby, it was his grandmother who took care of him. He frequently moved from one place to another during his childhood years. He lived in Greenwood, Mississippi, then to Gary, Indiana, and finally settled in Chicago, Illinois.

He began his acting career at a very young age. At the age of 9, he landed the lead role in a school play. After finishing his elementary studies, he went to Threadgill Elementary School in Greenwood, which was called Broad Street High School at that time.

Morgan has four children – Saifoulaye, Morgana, Deena, and Alfonso. He had an adopted daughter named E’dena Hines, who was killed in New York City back in August 2015.
