Queen Sugar Season 4: All You Need To Know

Queen Sugar is a drama television series in America that was created by Ava DuVernay. The story was based on the debut novel book by Natalie Baszile. The show production was run by Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey, both as executive producers.

The story of the movie series revolves around the lives of three siblings who are living in the rural of Louisiana namely, Nova, Charlotte, and Ralph as they deal with the challenges after their father’s unexpected death and what to do about the 800-acre sugarcane farm. 

Some of the film episodes are themed on racial profiling, emphasizing American history about chattel slavery, the inequities on the justice system against criminals, and other African American related issues. 

The film was a success having to win two NAACP Image Awards with a total of 12 nominations and successfully held a 93% approval rating review in Rotten Tomatoes.

Many critics have appreciated the film’s approach to the storyline that tackles relevant and global issues when it comes to class, gender, and culture, while uniquely emphasizing concerns of African American society.

The film has expressed it’s genuine cinematography and plot by having a dominant cast of black people.

Queen Sugar Season 4 Release Date

The film’s first season was aired and premiered on Oprah Winfrey Network in September of 2016, the second season followed in 2017, the third season in 2018, and the fourth season in 2019.

In the same year of the fourth season, OWN has already renewed the series for a fifth season.  The film runs for four seasons with a total of 55 episodes. 

The Plot

To get a better view of the fourth season, let us learn the plot of the film series.  The story follows the lives of the three siblings, in Louisiana.

The eldest who is Nova Bordelon is an activist and a journalist in New Orleans, the second daughter is Charlotte Bordelon who is a mother and a working wife in Los Angeles, and third is their brother Ralph Bordelon who is a single parent, raising his child alone with the struggle of unemployment. 

With their father’s unexpected death, the land was unexpectedly given to Charlotte. Charlotte, a recently divorced mother, brings her teen son Micah and moves back to the rural area of Louisiana to operate and manage the farm. 

In season 4 of the movie series, it tells the story about Ralph Angel learns that his parole was already over, Romero and Charlotte are enjoying each other’s company, the Bordelon family celebrates the Vi’s Pizza and Diner.

Nova finally completed and published his book called “Blessings and Blood”, Micah seeking for relationship advice from Ralph, Nova helping her sister Charlotte as she was dealing with challenges with the farm and her life.

Micah triggered Blue’s trauma when he had taken him to the park and having the community of rural Louisiana, come together at the Queen Sugar Mill stating the situation that everything from that point on is enough. 

The plot finished with Violet and Sam Landry’s shared past has been revealed, Charley caught up Sam’s scheme that she was being used for his own personal advantages and the Bordelon family came together and united to face an unknown challenge that may bring them in the future.

Like many other series, the main characters and actors are retained to prevent confusion as the film progresses. 

The main characters are Rutina Wesley as Nova Bordelon, Dawn Garnder as Charlotte Bordelon, Kofi Siriboe as Ralph Bordelon, Nicholas Ashe as Micah West, Omar Dorsey as Hollingsworth Desonier, Dondre Whitfield as Remy Newell and Timon Durrett as David West. 

Many recurring characters are also set to retain their roles, should the plot are in need of their appearances. As the series continues, new characters and actors will be up for casting. 

Movie Crew

Continuing the season series, the season 4 crew has retained its original line up. A progressive film story produced by Ava DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey, and Melissa Carter, with a running show time of 37-65 minutes.

Originally released by Oprah Winfrey Network, it continued together with different production companies such as Warner Horizon Television, Forward Movement, Array Filmworks, and Harpo films.

Most likely it will be the same production team and crew for the upcoming Queen Sugar film series.

Queen Sugar Season 4 was released and premiered on June 12, 2019, having a total of 13 episodes in the season. The season ended with their last episode on September 11, 2019.

The film series trailer was released a few months before the season 4 premiere which was on June 12, 2019. The production released two season 4 preview trailers in May 2019 through their YouTube channel and in Oprah Winfrey Network.
