If you have been reading and watching manga and anime, you would already know that the isekai genre is becoming more and more popular. For your information, isekai is a genre of a story where the main character has been transported, reincarnated, or in any other way has been to another world.
Usually, main characters who have been transported to a different world have died from their previous life and have been reborned to a new world with his or her previous knowledge from the past life. One of the many reasons that isekai became a hit in the animated world is that we get to have a view of different worlds with the creativity of each producer and writers.
More and more manga with the isekai genre have been animated already due to popular demand, and one of the great mangas that got an animated version is The Rising of The Shield Hero.
For those people who are into anime and manga, then you probably have an idea what The Rising of The Shield Hero is. Originally, it is a web novel created by Aneko Yusagi. It ran from 2012 up to 2015 on a website named Shosetsuka ni Naro. Due to its great story and people acknowledging it, Media Factory had adapted the series into light novels. Aiya Kyu also made a manga adaptation which had run since 2014. Kinema Citrus then adapted it to become a series with 25 episodes which broadcasted in 2019.
As of today’s date, The Rising of The Shield Hero has been considered as one of the best anime iseka which are currently showing.
What is this The Rising of The Shield Hero?
If you’re here to read about the upcoming new season, then I assume you already have a huge idea of what the anime series is. However, for those who wants to have a flashback or just a synopsis just to get a clear picture of the series, then here it is:
So basically, The Rising of The Shield Hero is a story where our main character, Naofumi Iwatani is summoned to save another world. However, Naofumi isn’t the only one summoned, there were other 3 “Heroes” who were also summoned to help save the kingdom.
These “Heroes” are recruits by the Kingdom which are known as the Cardinal Heroes, which basically, to save the Kingdom, needs to fight and defeat the “Waves” of monsters. Unlike any typical isekai where the main character is overpowered, Naofumi gets a shield and is weak as hell … as of the moment. Spoiler? Maybe. Maybe not.
So yeah, in the anime series, Naofumi encounters a lot of obstacles even though becoming one of the Cardinal Heroes. Naofumi has been looked down by the kingdom and even by the other heroes. Unlike the other 3 who were supported by a lot of resources by the kingdom, Naofumi was neglected and abandoned. Malty, the one person who stood by him, had betrayed him and accused him of sexual assault. Malty even stole his belongings.
Angered by how he was falsely accused, he goes around all by himself. With his dedication to clear his name and commitment to leave the rotten world he was summoned in, he struggled to train his body and gain a little amount just to make it through the day.
He was going on solo until he purchased a slave that was being sold in a slave store. Although this slave is sickly, very shy and weak, it became his trusted companion. This companion, Raphtalia, which is his main offense, became one of the strongest characters from the series. Naofumi also got an egg which later hatched into a monster, who he named as Filo. With his 2 new companions, Naofumi travels and saves every part of the Kingdom and later on gains the respect of other people.
