“So I’m a Spider, So What?” is a light novel series in Japan. It’s written by Okina Baba and animated by Tsukasa Kiryu. The story goes about a reincarnated high school girl as a dungeon spider.
The series talks about her trials to survive. A manga adaptation of the series is available. Its anime version was produced by Millepensee and released on TV from January to July 2021.
The series is based on two events. One, from the reincarnated spider girl. The other from her classmates went under the same fate.

Characters
Shiraori
Shiraori originally reincarnated as a nameless white dungeon spider. She’s often called “Kumoko” by fans. Her quest to survive made her grow strong and earned the title “Nightmare of the Labyrinth.”
During the prolepsis, she became a leader of the 10th demon army. Shiraori was first thought to be the reincarnation of Hiiro Wakaba. However, it was revealed that she was the class’ pet spider implanted with Wakaba’s memories.
Ariel
Ariel is the maker of spider monsters. He’s also the current Demon Lord. Despite being a young girl, she’s one of the primal beings in the world.
Shiraori’s influence towards other spider monster species made her a threat against Ariel. Thus, having the plot to kill her. But, Ariel never succeeded.
They came into a truce and agreed to travel together. It became like a grandmother-granddaughter bond. During the prolepsis, Ariel is shown as a tyrant.
After hearing the revelation about the dying planet, her desire to wipe humanity off started to lose. Lost lives mean more energy gathered to heal the world.
Sophia Keren
Also known as “Vampy,” Sophia is a vampire product of mutation. Her parents were humans. As a child, she met Shiraori and Ariel. They took her after Sophia’s home was destroyed during a war.
She grew up being bullied in her past life. She hated everything about her past. Despite hating Shiraori at first, they became more like sisters.
Wrath
Wrath is a reincarnated goblin also known as “Mr. Oni.” As a strong opposition to capitalism, he enjoys the hunter-gatherer life of a goblin. But, he was captured after the humans destroyed his village.
He broke free and went on a rampage in revenge for being abused by the humans. He became an oni. But, Shiraori defeated him and became a part of her group.
He became the leader of the Demon Army’s 8th division in the prolepsis.
Merazophis
Merazophis is Sophia’s butler and her crush. He was gravely wounded when Sophia’s village was attacked. Thus, forcing her to make him a vampire.
Despite the odds of preserving his sanity, he still tries to serve Shiraori. He became the 4th Demon Army leader in the prolepsis.
Guliedistodiez
Guliedistodiez is a god disguised as a man in black armor that rules the dragons. He became concerned about the reincarnations affecting the world’s balance. But, he was ordered to stand down by his superior, D.
D / Hiiro Wakaba
Previously thought to be Shiraori’s past self, D is a high-ranking god. She lacks slacking off from her duties. She reincarnated her classmates after an attempt of killing her from a previous Hero and Demon Lord.
Plot
Over the years, the Hero and Demon Lord are faced with an unending battle. One day, a spell accidentally hit planet Earth, killing a bunch of high school students. But, they were reincarnated into another world.
Although some became prominent figures of society, there was one unlucky girl. She was reincarnated into a dungeon spider of the weakest species. To survive, she faced challenges against vile creatures.
Light Novels
On May 27, 2015, Okina Baba created the series as a web novel. It was published on Shosetsuka ni Naro. In December 2015, the first light novel was made.
It was published by Fujimi Shobo and animated by Tsukasa Kiryu. On April 15, 2017, Yen Press licensed the series. There have been a total of 16 light novels from December 10, 2015, until January 8, 2022.
Manga
On December 22, 2015, Asahiro Kakashi made a manga adaptation of the series. It was posted on Kadokawa Shoten’s manga website called “Young Ace Up.” It was licensed by Yen Press.
There were a total of 11 manga chapters from July 9, 2016, until November 9, 2021.
Anime
An anime version of the series was announced on July 6, 2018. The television series is set to premiere in 2020. However, due to the COVID-9 pandemic, it was moved to January 2021.
The 24-episode series was divided into a 2-cour season. Millepensee animated the series with Shin Itagaki as the director and Jotaro Ishigami as the producer. It aired from January 8 until July 3, 2021.
A license was also given to Crunchyroll to stream the series outside Asia. Access was given to Medialink for Southeast Asia and Asia. Likewise, it can be viewed on Bilibili and YouTube.
Season 2
Despite the 24-episode long anime series, fans are still eager to hear about a second season. As of now, there have been no reports from management. But, looking at the odds might give us some hope.
Although the season finale was delayed because of production issues, it’s not enough. Fans are looking for something more. Based on Bilibili’s views, the anime had 200 million on its list.
Fans’ advocacy and patronage for the anime series could be a compelling factor for more. Aside from that, the light novel series is still ongoing. This means a higher chance for an anime version which is due for another season.
The adventure of Shiraori and her reincarnated friends remains to be a mystery. Who knows what else is out there aside from demons and gods? Would there be a second season?
Stories are left to be told. Mysteries are yet to be unraveled. All we can do is sit back and wait for the final verdict. Hope is still to come.
