The OA Season 3: Release Date, Cast, New Season/Cancelled

After the takeover of the OTT platforms by the success of Money heist, breaking bad, etc, mystery drama had become the new black and the most sought-after formula to success. Although, given that we have some of the greatest web series in the mystery drama genre, the competition is cutthroat.

The OA proved with its first season that it isn’t just any other mystery drama, but a potential classic, for the massive fan base it has. It is a television sitcom of the mystery drama genre, encompassing science fiction, supernatural, and fantasy.

It premiered on Netflix on December 16, 2016, and had millions of people watch it across the globe. Ever since its second season went off air, (you can still stream it on Netflix), fans of the show have been eagerly waiting for the release of its third season. The OA is an American mystery drama series that streamed on Netflix. It belongs to the genre of Mystery, Drama, Science fiction, Supernatural, and Fantasy. It has been helmed by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. The plot of the first season of The OA revolves around Prairie Johnson, who is a young woman who went missing for seven years. She is an adopted child. After some time, she resurfaces and starts to address herself as “the OA”. The OA is the abbreviation for “the original angel”. On being interrogated by the FBI, Johnson refuses to cooperate with the FBI and her parents and does not tell them where she was for these seven years and how she got her eyesight back. Instead of taking help from the cops, she forms her own little squad, tells them about her story, and asks for their help to rescue the other people who went missing.

The second season of the show is about OA landing in San Francisco by traversing through different dimensions. She tries to rescue the captives from her former captor Hap. She starts helping an investigation that is supposed to find a little girl who went missing. The only two prompts they have are an old house with supernatural stories about it and an online puzzle game. At the same time, a series of mishaps try to distract OA from her plan.


Brit Marling featured in the role of Prairie Johnson, and Emory Cohen played the role of Homer Roberts. Scott Wilson featured in the role of Abel Johnson and Phyllis Smith featured in the role of Betty “BBA” Broderick-Allen. Alice Krige essayed the role of Nancy Johnson and Patrick Gibson played the role of Steve Winchell. 

Brendan Meyer played the character of Jesse Mills, and Brandon Perea played the role of Alfonso “French” Sosa. Ian Alexander featured as Buck/Michelle Vu, and Jason Isaacs played the role of Hunter Aloysius “Hap” Percy. Kingsley Ben-Adir played the role of Karim Washington, while Will Brill essayed the role of  Scott Brown. 

Sharon Van Etten played the character of Rachel DeGrasso, and Paz Vega featured in the role of Renata Duarte. Chloe Levine played the role of Angie, and Hiam Abbass played the role of Khatun in season 1. Actors like Zoey Todorovsky, Marcus Choi, Robert Eli, Nikolai Nikolaeff, Sean Grandillo, Zachary Gemino, Harry Hains, Riz Ahmed, Robert Morgan, Michael Cumpsty, Bria Vinaite, Zendaya, etc, featured in guest roles in the first and second seasons.


The OA has had two of its seasons released by now. Both seasons had 8 episodes each. The episodes of the first season were “Chapter 1: Homecoming”, “Chapter 2: New Colossus”, “Chapter 3: Champion”, “Chapter 4: Away”, “Chapter 5: Paradise”, “Chapter 6: Forking Paths”, “Chapter 7: Empire of Light”, and  “Chapter 8: Invisible Self”.

Will there be OA Season 3?

The second season of the show ended on a cliffhanger and left its audience waiting for the third one to calm their nerves. Soon, Brit Marling, the protagonist and the co-creator of the show made an official statement that the show has been canceled by Netflix. Fans of the show were disturbed by the news and have decided to sign a petition to make the makers bring the show back to them.
