Top 10 Fun Activities to Try This Summer

Summer 2021 is here! Not what you quite imagined it to be, but it’s here nonetheless! What have you got planned? It’s a time of fun with your family and friends, soaking up the warmth of the sun and entertaining ourselves beyond measure! Camping, Grilling, swimming, or just getting a new hobby; summertime brings endless possibilities!

What’s more? You could get your family together and make your very own 2021 Summer Bucket List and fill it with everything you would love to do this year! Now isn’t this a neat way to make goal setting more fun?

Here are some of the top 10 activities we’ve chalked down for you:

1. Camp, in the YARD!

Who said camping has to always be in the great, wild outdoors, where you’ve packed your fanny for the kids and backpacks weighing you down as you climb? You could start your very own campsite barbecue from the comfort of your backyard. Just make sure your zip code has no restrictions against this kind of thing, and you’re gold!

Here’s what you should do to make it a magical experience:

Camp-in-the-YARD

  • Get a tent with some sleeping bags
  • Add fairy lights and make it magical!
  • Put your grill and portable/ multipurpose charcoal-burner to good use!
  • Plan a neighborhood nature hunt
  • Heat some marshmallows and tell campsite stories
  • Get your sleeping bags out and stargaze
  • Make a rule that no one is allowed to go back indoors unless absolutely necessary!
  • Eat some grilled food and make merry!

2. Visit a Park

Now, when we say visit a park, we mean a state park that you’ve never been to before! There’s something mind-boggling about trying new things that’s so within our reach! You may even find a lovely family or meet some cute little pups as you take the plunge! Make it a day, pack a beautiful picnic basket with some warm bread, Nutella, or chicken breast, and call it a day!

Research shows that when you try something new, your brain begins to expand and overcome past fears, present doubts & insecurities. You feel better about yourself and stimulate the creative faculties of your mind and spirit. If a visit to the nearby new park does that, imagine traveling to a whole new country?

3. Learn a New Skill

Sit down and take a notepad + pen with you. Write down everything that you’ve loved and still love to try since you were a child. When we were kids, we had such a strong sense of right/ wrong in society’s eyes; we were unfettered and free. Your list may even seem childish to you at first, but just go with the flow and let your heart explore!

If you’ve got the typical writer’s block, here’s what you could add to your list:

  • Learn how to bake
  • Start a new fun way to exercise
  • Join a dance class
  • Join a book club
  • Learn Gardening
  • Start reading a holy scripture
  • Explore a country’s culture you’ve always wanted to visit
  • Subscribe to an online writing course
  • Develop a new product and sell on social media
  • Make miniature paintings and have a yard sale
  • Learn about mixology and bartending

The possibilities are TRULY endless! Who knows, you could convert and monetize your passion into a side hustle that can fulfill all your dreams!

4. Donate Your Time to a Social Cause

We’re all so busy in the humdrum of life that we forget that the world is filled with people who aren’t capable of walking on their own two feet! We see faults, but some people have not the gift of sight! This summer is the perfect time to think of a cause you’re attached to and spend time volunteering!

It could be spending a few hours a week at the local animal shelter or an orphans’ home or doing community service. Make some cards for the folks and watch them smile bright like the sun! Whatever the cause is, we guarantee it’ll give you a good night’s sleep because doing good for others makes us feel better than the person at the receiving end!

5. Organize an Outdoor Movie Night for the Kids

This one is super fun! Get all the kids in the neighborhood and their parents and organize a cozy movie night in your backyard! How? All you need is a projector and a wall! You could even conduct a ballot the previous night and have everyone vote for their favorite movie!

P.S. If Frozen’s on the list, we’re sure that’s a real winner!

The kids will love it and have a memorable night! Get some soft roll-out mats for added comfort. Make some ice popsicles and make a mini snack bar for the kids with some nuggets, grilled corn, and mac ‘n’ cheese. You’ll be the most beloved couple on the block!

6. Just Sprinkle & Play

One of the best and most simple things you can do in the summer is turn on the sprinklers, get the kids to the backyard, and HAVE FUN! It’s hot outside, and the temperature indoors isn’t authentic!

So, mix it up, turn on some water splash fun in the yard and just have a good rain dance! If you have a sprinkler pad just for the kids and pets, that’s great too! Bring some beach vibes to your backyard with a beach ball, frisbee, and swimsuits.

Your neighbors will probably think you’re bonkers, but hey, to each his own, right? As long as you’re not stepping on someone else’s fun, you’re in the clear!

7. Travel, SOLO!

If you haven’t done this before, you MUST do it now! The easiest way to jump out of the rut and into a land of freedom and exhilaration is to travel by yourself.

The sense of independence and adventure that creeps into your bones is genuinely priceless and incomparable to any other joy. You don’t have to go all out, even going to a nearby city is perfect to start with! A healthy schedule with the right packed equipment and gear will ensure that your solo trip is a HIT!

Here are some necessities to take with you:

  • A smart backpack
  • Anti-theft lock
  • Comfy sneakers
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Water Bottle
  • Power bank
  • Secret-pocket clothes
  • An eAlarm
  • A book

You get the idea!

8. Shop from a New Farmer’s Market

Going organic and whole is not a marketing scam or gimmick! Come to think of it; it is a wholesome and rejuvenating way to honor your body’s support throughout the years.

If you always visit the supermarket, eat canned food, and just wing it with your meals, it may be time to start a new way to eat. The way you treat your food is the way your food treats you.

Taking extra care of the ingredients you put into your body makes you live longer and healthier. So, this summer, give your local farmer’s market a try, or try a new one if you want to spice things up! We promise this will be the best gift to your body and mind! The benefits and advantages of an organic lifestyle will shock you!

9. Take a Couple’s Class/ Do Couples’ Activities

You and your partner may or may not find yourselves in a rut, but if there’s one thing you can do to take your relationship to the next level is to learn something new TOGETHER! The tensions that you and your partner may bear can all be lifted with a few hours in a week spent learning something new in unison!

Here are some ideas to help get you started:

  • Go for a bartending class together
  • Take a couple’s yoga class
  • Pursue fitness with other couples
  • Go on double-date hikes
  • Learn a new language together
  • Take on a home project; like gardening
  • Or, just NAP together!

10. Start Saying ‘YES’ More!

If you constantly find yourself saying NO to new experiences and things, then chances are you need to open up more. According to Psychology, the brain’s negativity bias is very overpowering; that is why it reacts pleasantly to positive stimuli but wildly painfully to negative stimuli. So, when you keep saying no to even pleasant and fun experiences, your brain begins to get into a habit loop.

This can leave you feeling insecure, left out, and more lonely. Saying NO to the things that genuinely make you feel uncomfortable or harm your health is perfectly okay. But, make an effort this summer to take on new projects, or even small pockets of fun with a FIRM YES!

We’ve given you plenty of ways to make your summer memorable and joyous, pandemic or no pandemic! But, always remember, no matter what activities you choose, wear your mask, practice social distancing, and HAVE FUN! You don’t need to fret and fear; just take the precautions, and you’ll be good to go! There’s no reason a pandemic should dampen your summer cheer!

Happy Summer!
