Over the years, innovation in material science has helped automakers enhance the safety of their cars while not compromising on the handling characteristics and the overall weight. One of the primary materials in this front is the use of Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS). According to Mobility Outlook the BIW (Body in White) of the XUV700 is built using 20 percent AHSS, 21 percent Boron steel and 60 percent mixture of High Strength Steel (HSS) and standard steel. In addition, the new material also has helped Mahindra adopt the lightweight index concept where the weight is divided by the torsional stiffness of the chassis. There are over 6,300 weld points, over 155 metre of structural sealants and 238 critical joints that are defined with different grades of stiffness to help enhance the overall space, rigidity and safety of the SUV. A combination of these elements has made Mahindra cars a touch safer than other brand models.
