About The Boondocks

The Boondocks was established in 2005. Its first episode was published on November 6, 2005. They had their last episode published on June 23, 2014.

It’s a humorous animated sitcom with 4 seasons for Cartoon Network’s late-night block. It was created by Aaron McGruder based on the comic strip of the same name. It was cheerfully supported by many fans after it debuted.

The show talks about a black Family called the “Freemans”. They were settling into a friendly all-white suburb of Woodcrest. This series offers us the perspective of mixtures of cultures and lifestyles.

There is this 10-year-old kid named Huey Freeman. He was a self-proclaimed leftist revolutionary. Huey is an intelligent kid, at the same time, is so against modern black culture.

Huey is known to be skewed at many things. He even knows how to survive in a zombie apocalypse. But, most of his comments for good people are not listened to.

Not only that, this young kid is a black belter in Karate. Although, he’s not that good and just sucks at it. With him is his 8-year-old brother named Riley Freeman who was an aspiring gangsta who has messy afro-textured hair.

Riley is quite the opposite of his elder brother. He’s rude and not smart. Riley is usually the reason why they get into trouble. They both lived with their grandfather, Robert Freeman, on the south side of Chicago.

Their grandfather is mean-spirited and selfish. What more? He dates women 50 years younger than him.

The boys, more often their grandfather, get into troublesome embarrassing moments. Hence, the episode always ends with a moral lesson such as not lying to people. There are many more life-touching lessons this cartoon portrays.

This show is about race. It has gained positive reviews from the crowd especially the African Americans.

The Boondocks has grown more popular so producers kept renewing the show and produced more seasons. It’s been almost a decade since Sony Pictures Animation distributed four seasons for this series.

Unfortunately, McGruder announced the cancelation of the series. The viewers were heartbroken to hear this bad news and became the talk of the town.

Although the fans did their best to be heard asking for a continuation, there was no new episode published. Fans were so upset and helpless.

This show is a cartoon but it’s meant for adults. Hence, it’s placed in the Adult Swim lineup on the Cartoon Network. The “N” word is used in almost every episode. Surely, you won’t like your kids to learn things like that in their daily routine.

The scenes are critical to a kid’s level of interpretation. They might not catch up with the humor and insights it gives.

Parents should understand this point and be able to guide their children in trying to watch The Boondocks. This is not a show for everyone, especially for kids. Its edgy humor appeals to adults and older teens.

Renewal Updates

Talking about the renewal, the sequel is finally officially renewed. The fans are jumping for joy although the waiting game isn’t over yet.

In June 2019, Sony Pictures Animations confirmed the good news. They’re gonna be producing the popular animated sitcom again.

Additionally, McGruder is taking the executive producer role again this time. Do you want more? Actor John Witherspoon will be playing the fan-favorite character Robert Freeman in the 5th season too.

A few months after, Warner Media’s streaming service HBO Max is gonna pick up the reboot with two seasons. The installments are expected to be coming in 12 episodes long. The producers confirmed that this is going to have a separate series.

Plot

There are things we can anticipate in Boondocks Season 5. For example, it’s going to have a similar plotline with its first season.

It will talk about the Freemans moving into the friendly all-white suburban, Maryland. It’s a place where Uncle Ruckus rules the community government.

It’s going to be an intriguing plot of the reboot series as they attempt to fight Ruckus’ regime. Let’s hope for a successful come-back for the upcoming production.

Release Date

Boondocks have many loyal fans who have been patiently waiting for the 5th season to come out. Its renewal has become viral soon after it was announced.

HBO Max chose two seasons altogether. It was announced by the producers that new episodes will come out by 2020. But as of now, there’s no sign of any new episode of the famous sitcom being produced yet.

The supportive fans got so disappointed by the delays. Good thing a confirmation was made. The show will premiere on HBO Max in 2021.
